Yoker V Maryhill
4 - 4
17th August 2010

This may have been a "nothing at stake" match, but it certainly provided value for money for the supporters, with Maryhill staging a remarkable comeback to earn a share of the points.

In a continuation from the Ashfield game last Wednesday , Maryhill started with a shocking display of defending which saw the home side go three ahead after only nine minutes. In the second minute a corner from the left was headed into the net past a static Hill defence by JOHN KING. Four minutes later, another corner from the left was not properly cleared, and ex Maryhill player CRAIG DEWAR hammered the ball past Robert Tiropoulos.  Yet another high ball from the left produced a third goal in the ninth minute when ex Hill player James McLernon's cross was met by GARY BISSLAND. Surprisingly, Yoker failed to capitalise on their advantage, and Maryhill took control of the game. MARK MAXWELL reduced the deficit after 24 minutes when his cross from wide on the right was misjudged by home keeper Ross Clark, and ended up in the net. Maryhill continued on top until the break, but were unable to score again.

Half Time  -  Yoker  3   Maryhill  1

The home side should have restored their three goal advantage immediately after the break, but Robert Tiropoulos made a good save from McLernon. Maryhill gradually regained the upper hand, and scored just before the hour mark. Good work from Mark Maxwell on the right ended with his cross being fired home by RYAN SCOBIE. A minute later it was 3 - 3 with the goal of the game. MARK MAXWELL broke from midfield, and beat three Yoker defenders before shooting past Clark from 20 yards. What was developing into an absorbing match  took another turn just two minutes later, when Yoker went ahead once again. A long ball  caused confusion in the Maryhill defence, and JAMES McLERNON ran through to shoot past Tiropoulos. The final twist arrived midway through the half when Maryhill drew level again, and completed a four goals in eight minutes spell. RYAN SCOBIE cut in from the left, evaded two challenges, and although Clark got a hand to the ball, he was unable to prevent it crossing the line.

This game provided high and low points for Maryhill. The low was the poor defending, and the high the way that they refused to accept defeat, and ended the game  the stronger side.
