Maryhill  V Wishaw
4 - 0

21st April 2010

Maryhill made heavy weather  of overcoming a stuffy Wishaw side, but three goals in the last seven minutes eventually secured a comfortable victory.

After a quiet opening ten minutes, the visitors were first to threaten when a long range lob from Billy Brawley caught Chris Calder off his line. Fortunately for Maryhill the ball landed wide of the target. Kevin Howe almost opened the scoring for Maryhill in the 18th minute, but with Wishaw keeper Glen Weir beaten, the Hill striker's header rebounded from the post. Maryhill began to dominate at this stage, and a Martin McGoldrick header and a close range shot from Craig Ferguson both came close. They eventually took the lead four minutes from half time when Mark Sideserf headed home from a Michael Tolland corner.

Half Time  -  Maryhill 1   Wishaw  0

Kevin Howe should have put Maryhill two up two minutes after the break, but he mistimed his shot from around 6 yards out. The visitors rarely threatened, but despite having very little to do, Chris Calder kept Wishaw from equalising when he saved well from a Kris Kerrigan shot in the 57th minute. It was all Maryhill now, but despite having the bulk of the pressure, a poor final ball let them down on several occasions. The Wishaw defence, well marshalled by James Mc Bride, was also proving difficult to break down. Scott Banks had a good opportunity, but after being set up by Mark Sideserf, he shot weakly at Weir. Seven minutes from the end the crucial second goal finally arrived. A long ball from Martin McGoldrick was picked up by Kevin Howe who outpaced three Wishaw defenders, and shot past Weir. Maryhill were at last able to relax, and played some impressive football in the final five minutes, which saw them add a further two goals. First Leyton Slack headed home a Michael Tolland cross, and in the last minute Kevin Howe got his second when he deflected  a cross from Craig Ferguson beyond the keeper.
