Dunipace V Maryhill
1 - 1

24th April 2010

A draw was a fair result after a dull and uninspiring encounter in which neither side was able to find any sustained fluency.

Maryhill dominated in terms of possession for almost the entire opening 45 minutes without seriously troubling the vociferous and entertaining Tom Meighan in the Dunipace goal. Indeed, the keeper's irrational claims for offside almost every time the ball crossed the halfway line and his  non stop eccentric commentary on events were among the few highlights of a game seriously lacking in excitement or incident . Chris Calder in the Maryhill goal was virtually a spectator for long spells, but apart from a Kevin Howe shot cleared off the line by Graeme McMillan, a 20 yard Michael Tolland effort, and a strong penalty claim, they posed no real threat to the home defence.

Half Time  -  Dunipace  0   Maryhill  0

A minute into the second half Dunipace went ahead when Barry Rodger forced the ball over the line after the Maryhill defence failed to deal with a cross from the left. Dunipace held the upper hand for a spell and an try from Marc Pincombe was well saved by Chris Calder. Unfortunately the Hill keeper had to retire injured shortly afterwards to be replaced by Kevin Montgomery. It was fairly even  for the rest of the game with little in the way of constructive play from either side. John Cunningham headed inches pat from a Mark Sideserf free kick, and for the home side John McPhail blasted over  the bar from 10 yards. It was a poor performance from Maryhill, but they were no worse than their mid table opponents, so the equaliser in 72 minutes could be considered merited. Dunipace defender Graeme McMillan was penalised for a high challenge inside the box, and  Ryan Scobie did his usual effective job from the penalty spot to give Maryhill a share of the points.
