Maryhill V Glasgow Perthshire
0 - 1

26th April 2010

Maryhill's chances of avoiding playing in Division Two next season received a severe setback after losing to one of the other main relegation candidates.

It was a bright enough start with Maryhill taking the initiative. After just  three minutes a John Cunningham header looked goalbound, but was scrambled off the line. The visitors replied with  a Chris Jackson header which struck the post, then Douglas Adair  came close, but after being set up shot past the post. Play was fairly even until the break, with neither side producing any goal attempts of note.

Half Time - Maryhill 0   Perthshire  0

The second half was pretty much a non event with both teams struggling, and a goalless draw looking to be the most likely outcome. Chris Calder made a vital save from a point blank range headed attempt from Michael MacAulay, but could do nothing to prevent Adair heading the only goal of the game midway through the half. Maryhill seemed to just accept defeat, and Shire goalkeeper Bryan Thomson had virtually nothing to do. Shire finished the stronger side, and Chris Calder had to produce another quality stop to prevent sub Scott Ballantyne from increasing the visitors' lead.

This was a dire and quite frankly, depressing display from Maryhill. There have been many poor performances thoughout the season, but this surely has to rank as the worst. Unless there is a huge improvement in the remaining eight league games, relegation is looking more and more likely.
