Blantyre Victoria V Maryhill
0 - 1

27th March 2010

A goal in injury time from  Martin McGoldrick earned Maryhill only their second League victory of the season, and their first points away from home.

For around 75 minutes this game was shaping up to be as poor as last week's visit to St Anthony's. Neither side could find any cohesion to their play, and goal attempts were few and far between. The home side had a couple of efforts which came close, first from a Paul Mallon drive which went wide, then Kevin Montgomery made a good save from Brian Glancy's close range shot. Maryhill's best chance came in the 26th minute when a Ryan Scobie header was deflected by a Vics defender, but quick reactions from keeper Charles Samasunga saved the day.

Half Time  -  Blantyre  Vics  0   Maryhill  0

The second half continued to produce some pretty uninspiring stuff, although good efforts from Leyton Slack and Mark Sideserf gave Maryhill some hope. A flurry of activity around Kevin Montgomery's goal midway through the half failed to pay off for the home side, and  the introduction of Craig Ferguson twelve minutes into the half saw Maryhill gradually  gain the upper hand. In the 74th minute a close range shot from Ferguson produced a great stop from Samasunga, and another  strike from Mark Sideserf was just wide of the target. In the final ten  minutes Maryhill produced some determined and constructive play, but a succession of attempts on goal were unsuccessful. A Ryan Scobie header went just wide, another header from Mark Maxwell was brilliantly blocked by Samasunga, sub Martin McGoldrick headed just over with the keeper beaten, and in the 89th minute a well struck Mark Sideserf free kick hit the bar. A minute into injury time Maryhill eventually got the winner, and it came from an error from Samasunga in the Vics goal. He fumbled a fairly innocuous shot from Craig Ferguson, and the ball broke to Ryan Scobie. The striker's cross was met by McGoldrick who fired home from a few yards out to seal the three points for Maryhill  with his first goal for the club.
